Pickleball in Bangalore (2026): Where to Play, What It Costs & Why It's Booming
New courts are opening across Bangalore almost every week and leagues are filling up fast. Here's a plain-English guide to getting into pickleball in the city in 2026.
A few years ago almost nobody in Bangalore had heard of pickleball. In 2026 it is the sport everyone wants to try. It is played on a court smaller than a tennis court, with a solid paddle and a plastic ball, and the rules are simple enough to learn in one session. New courts are opening across the city almost every week, and social leagues fill up fast. Here is how to get started.
Why pickleball took off in Bangalore
Three reasons. It is easy to start: a complete beginner can rally within one session, while tennis or badminton take weeks. It is social: doubles on a small court means everyone talks, and mixed groups of all ages can play together. And courts are quick and cheap to build, so clubs and new venues have added them fast, including city leagues that have drawn big crowds. Across India, the number of players is growing very fast.
- ✓You can rally in your first session — the easiest racquet sport to start
- ✓Doubles-first and social — good for families, colleagues and players above 40
- ✓Easy on the knees and joints compared with tennis or squash
- ✓Courts are quick and cheap to build, so more are opening all the time
What it costs to play
There are three costs: court time, equipment and, if you want it, coaching. As a rough guide for Bangalore in 2026:
- ✓Court rental — charged per court per hour and split between players; for a doubles hour the per-person cost is small, often less than a good badminton court
- ✓Equipment — many venues lend or rent paddles and balls for beginners, so you can try before you buy; a basic paddle is an inexpensive first purchase once you enjoy the game
- ✓Coaching — a short beginner course of a few sessions is the quickest way to reach real games; group coaching costs less per session than one-on-one
💡 Tip
For your first few visits, borrow or rent a paddle. Only buy your own once you know you enjoy it and a coach can point you to the right weight and grip size.
The rules, in two minutes
This is enough to start playing. You will pick up the rest on court.
- ✓Serve underhand and diagonally, into the opposite service box
- ✓The ball must bounce once on each side before either team can volley (the 'two-bounce rule')
- ✓There is a no-volley zone near the net, called the 'kitchen' — you cannot smash from inside it
- ✓Only the serving side scores points; games are usually to 11, win by 2
The equipment you need
Pickleball needs very little: a paddle (solid, no strings), the plastic balls with holes, flat non-marking court shoes, and comfortable clothes. Beginners do not need an expensive paddle. At the start, control and consistency matter far more than the equipment.
